                           THD PROSCAN VERSION 9.0
                           -----------------------

The following is a list of changes to the program since version 8.0
Please note that some of the "new" features need to be selected from the
installation and are not "automatic". (If you find that a "new" feature
does not work as expected, try modifying your entry in the installation
to be sure it KNOWS that you wish to use the new feature).
Also note that some features will require you to create text files
for use by the various features. More complete explanations of the features
are available in THDDOC.EXE and THDFILES.TXT.
Additional help in regards to the "ANSI" can be found in the
THDANSI.ZIP file which contains some examples of acceptable ansi code for
use with this feature. Some of the ANSI files may contain commenting which
could assist you in creating your own ansi files if you have difficulty with
the explanation in THDFILES.TXT.
Due to the number and nature of changes in this version, no attempt
will be made explain the changes/features in this document. For help with
the new features, please see THDDOC.EXE and the other files included in
the archive.

Major addition...
THD ProScan Version 9.0 adds a full featured Archive convertor. The
convertor will convert from any of the supported archive type TO any of ARJ,
LHA, SQZ, or ZIP. This conversion process will convert all imbedded archives
regardless of their position in the directory structure (or in other
imbedded archives) while maintaining the file integrity of the original.
This in itself is the best reason to use it. No files will be lost
during a conversion by THD ProScan. By using the various levels, you can opt
to not convert certain archives based on their type, position, av
protection, file extension or a number of combinations of the above.
THDDOC.EXE gives a full explanation of the five levels and how they are
used.
Originally intended to be a standalone convertor (separate from THD
ProScan) it was decided to put the two utilities together in a single file.
by doing so you now have the option to TEST only, TEST and convert, or
Convert only. Speed of conversion may seem slow. Security of the archives
(and your system) is the reason. Some extra steps are taken to safeguard
your system and MUCH trouble has been gone through to avoid the potential of
corrupting archives during conversion. The resulting archive will expand
EXACTLY the same as the original, no files will ever be lost or overwritten.

Bugfixes
--------
        - A rare error caused a few systems to hang (and/or report
unwarranted errors) when testing some very specific files.
                 Fixed.

        - The name of the main archive was not included in the
heuristic log if one of its imbedded archives contained
                 suspicious code. Fixed.

        - An error in the command line used for TDCHECK caused
valid TD0 files to fail the CRC test. Fixed.

Additions
---------
        - Description files can be imported into RemoteAccess 2.00
and Telegard 2.7 File Data Bases directly by THDPRO.EXE
(FILE_ID.DIZ, DESC.SDI, and DESC.SDN). In the case of virus
infected files, if this option is selected a message
regarding the failure will be inserted instead.

        - Online help during installation.

        - Dos shell from installation.

        - Ability to put random and/or area-specific comments in
archives as selected from a list.

        - Ability to put current date and/or time in user supplied
                 file comments.

        - Ability for the sysop to customize the remote output
through the use of ansi files (THDPRO.AN? and
PAINSOFT.AN?). Providing an entire array of 21 possible
output screens to be chosen from at random.

        - The ability to FORCE a single ansi output (PAINSOFT.ANS).

        - The abilty to remove files from archives based on their
                 CRC value.

        - The sysop may select to not automatically test files over a
given size. If asked to test a file over the supplied size
THDPRO will prompt the sysop for 5 seconds to press a key.
If no key is pressed the file is not tested. Files skipped
by this process will return the same errorlevel as a
                 successful test.

        - A line of decscription to inform the sysop if no remote
output is being sent due to being run in local mode and/or
the lack of a fossil on the specified comport.

        - SHARE is now detected and files opened in shared mode if
found. If acccess to a file is denied, THDPRO.EXE will wait
for up to 30 seconds for the other process to release the
                 file before aborting.

Changed
-------
        - THD ProScan will now finish in the same directory in which
                 it started.

        - SCAN.EXE is no longer manditory.

        - Heuristic failures can be considered virus infected.
(optional if SCAN.EXE is used, manditory if not)

        - Option to use any or all of the supported virus scanners.

        - Files original timestamp is optional (It can be kept or
                 updated).

        - Output during virus scanning with F-Prot or TBScan now
shows the remote what tester is being used.

        - Temporary directories are now chosen in a way which
prohibits use of a directory that already exists.

        - Orphaned temp directories will be removed on the
                 second day following their creation.

        - THDTERM4 is released with added support for users of
                 FileDoor.

        - THDDEMO.COM has been modified to support testing of the
                 sysop supplied ansi screens/interfaces.
