ALL manuals can be found online at www.portmasters.com.

If you purchased your PM4 from PORTMASTERS.COM, it comes preconfired:

ETHER0 IP (10baseT half duplex): 10.0.0.201
ETHER1 IP (10/100baseT full duplex): 10.0.0.202

You can set your PC with ip of 10.0.0.1 and use telnet or PMVISION found at
ftp.portmasters.com/pub/le/software/java to configure the portmaster.
Use ETHER0 for management only and ETHER1 for connection to your backbone.

If the IP is not known, follow thes instructions:

1. Using a terminal or a PC with Hyperterm. Set it to 9600-N-8-1.

2. Connect the CONSOLE cable to the serial port of a PC. You may need to
use a DB 25 to DB 9 adapter. The console cable is already crossed over
so no NULL MODEM adapter is requrired.
3. Connect the RJ-45 end to port C0. Make sure that the top dip switch is to
the right and the bottom is left, putting the SMM in CONSOLE mode
    (9600 bps n-8-1, xon/xoff flow control).

4. Plug in a power supply. After a post test you will see a "login:" prompt.

5. Login as "!root". Press ENTER for password. If there is a password and
you don't know it, type "override" for the password. It will give
you a 16 bit challenge string. Email this to override@portmasters.com.
You will be emailed back a 16 digit override password.

6. Type the following commands after you've logged in:

	set password <your desired password>
set ether1 address <valid ip address on your network: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx>
set ether1 netmask <valid netmask: default is 255.255.255.0>
	save all
	reset slot10

7. Connect an ethernet cable from your network to ETHER1. The unit
should be pingable and telnettable now.

8. Use PMVISION from ftp.portmasters.com for further configuration.
