Determine the PROM size of the MT5634HD8 before updating boot code. The following procedure only applies to MT5634HD8 cards. Step 1: Log into the controller. Step 2: Go online with one modem of each MT5634HD8 card that will eventually be updated. (ie. online 2A or online 6A,7A,8A). Step 3: Type: ATI8 If the modem responds: PROM SIZE: 4 MEG --> use the file located in: ftp://ftp.multitech.com/CommPlete/Modem/Bootcode/current/4meg/ If the modem responds: PROM SIZE: 2 MEG --> use the file located in: ftp://ftp.multitech.com/CommPlete/Modem/Bootcode/current/2meg/ If the modem responds: ERROR (or simply OK) CAREFULLY read the following information before continuing. Re-issue the command ati8 (to verify the response). This means the modem code currently running can not identify the size of the boot prom. The ATI8 command is functional in modem firmware 1.01 or better (to identify the version of modem code type ATI3). In this scenario, the safest way to identify the size of the boot prom is to update one modem on this card to a newer version of MODEM CODE. After which the ATI8 command will respond with the prom size. PLEASE NOTE: Updating boot code (the boot prom) with the incorrect file will damage your modem card to the point it will have to come in for repair. 1.xx boot code is only for 2 meg proms. 2.xx boot code is only for 4 meg proms. The exe and hex files will always be named 1.XX for 2 meg boot code. The exe and hex files will always be named 2.XX for 4 meg boot code. PLEASE NOTE: It is NOT necessary to identify the prom size of every modem on the card. Just one modem from each card. The card will have been manufactured with all 2 meg parts or all 4 meg parts. HOWEVER, because 2meg cards and 4 meg cards can properly run in the same segment it is important not to assume all cards are the same.
