7.1 The Statistical Analyzer The Statistical Analyzer lets you analyze and view events collected previously by the MultiCommManager in graph or report format. The event data can be analyzed in several different ways depending on the type of report desired. The analyzed event data can be viewed as pie charts or bar graphs or be used to generate connection reports and log reports in ASCII or dBASEIII format. You can view the reports in your text editor, or print its contents to any Windows printer. Any of the reports can be displayed, printed, or searched using the scrollable read- only ASCII viewer. Statistical analysis centers around the analysis period. The analysis period is used to define the time period to analyze events. Graphical analysis is selected by default. Additional analysis can be selected by clicking the buttons ASCII Log Dump, Connection Reports, or DBase III Log Dump. Clicking the Process button will process the selected events. The initial analysis may be further refined by using modem filtering to select which modems should be used in the graph and connection analysis. Call direction may also be used to further refine the graphical analysis. The commands available on the Menu Bar of the Statistical Analyzer vary according to the type of window being displayed. The Menus are: the File Menu, the Edit Menu, the View Menu, the Filter Menu, the Report Menu and the Window Menu. The Edit Menu is active only for a graph. When a report is displayed a Search Menu is active. 7.1 The File Menu The File Menu consists of three commands: About, Open and Exit. When there is an active graph, there are five commands: About, Open, Print, Print Setup and Exit. When a report is active, there are four commands: About, Open, Print, and Exit. 7.1.1 The About Command Click on this command, or its button, for a display of the current software version number and copyright information for the Statistical Analyzer. 7.1.2 The Open Command Click on this command to open a previously generated report in the ASCII viewer. 7.1.3 The Print Command (Graphs or Reports) Click on this command to print the currently selected graph or report. 7.1.4 The Print Setup Command (Graphs) Click on this command to customize your print parameters for graphs. You may need to refer to your Windows manual or to your user's manual for options that your printer hardware and its driver allow. For reports, Print Setup can be accessed from the Print dialog box. 7.1.5 The Exit Command Click on this command or type Alt+F4 or click on its button to exit the Statistical Analyzer. Make sure that you are ready to exit the Statistical Analyzer because the Exit command closes the application and all active graphs without asking for a confirmation. 7.2 The Edit Menu (Graphs) The Edit Menu consists of one command: Copy. 7.2.1 The Copy Command Click on this command, or press CTRL+C, to copy the currently selected graph to the clipboard. The graph stays on the clipboard until another item is copied over it. The graph can be pasted into another document in another application, such as a word processing program. 7.3 The View Menu The View Menu has five commands: Connections, Disconnections, Faults, Graph Options and ASCII Log. 7.3.1 The Connections Command Click on this command to select Connect Type, Connect Class or Connect Speed as the characteristic for which the Statistical Analyzer produces a connection analysis graph. 7.3.2 The Disconnections Command Click on this command to select Disconnect Type as the characteristic for which the Statistical Analyzer produces a disconnection analysis graph. 7.3.3 The Faults Command Click on this command to select Security Faults, Modem Test Faults, Manager Faults or Modem General Faults as the characteristic for which the Statistical Analyzer produces a fault analysis graph. 7.3.4 The Graph Options Command Click on the Graph Options command and the Graph Setup Dialog Box appears. In the Style box you can click on the option button for a 2D Pie Chart, a 3D Pie Chart, a 2D Bar Chart or a 3D Bar Chart. 2D means two dimensional and 3D means three dimensional. In the Background Color box you can click on the option button for a white background or a grey background for your chart. A white background is good to use if you are going to print the chart. Click on the box in front of Draw Horizontal Bar Charts to select or deselect that option if you have chosen a bar graph in the Style box. Click on the box in front of No Labels on Bar Charts to select or deselect that option if you have chosen a bar graph in the Style box. Click on OK when you are satisfied with your choices. Click on Cancel at any time to abandon your changes. Shown below is an example of a three dimensional Bar Chart. 7.3.5 The ASCII Log Command Click on this command to view the ASCII log dump report. 7.4 The Search Menu (Reports) The Search Menu (active only for a report) has two commands: Find and Next. 7.4.1 The Find Command Click on the Find command to search for text in a report. 7.4.2 The Next Command Click on the Next command to repeat the previous search. 7.5 The Filter Menu The Filter Menu has three commands: Analysis Period, Filter Modems and Filter Calls. 7.5.1 The Analysis Period Command Click on this command or its button, and the Analysis Period Dialog Box appears. Scroll through the date and time options in the Starting Box and the Ending Box to select the specific time period for which you want the Statistical Analyzer to analyze data. You can also click on the ASCII Log Dump, the dBASEIII Log Dump, or the Connection Report boxes to have the analyzed data presented in one of those forms. Click on Cancel to abandon this analysis. When you have made your selections, click on the Process button and the Analyzing Event Data Dialog Box appears and displays the Number of Events Found in Period and the Current Time Being Processed along with a box showing the progression of the analysis. At any time you may click on the Abort button and only the information analyzed to that point is included in the chart. In other words, this does not abort the whole event analysis, it only aborts the unanalyzed data. The ending time and date of the analysis period will be adjusted to the time and date of the last event processed. 7.5.2 The Filter Modems Command Click on this command or on its button, and the Statistical Filtering Dialog Box appears. This dialog box is used to further refine the statistical analysis for graphs or connection reports. In this dialog box, you can choose which racks and modems from the current analysis period to be included in your graphs and reports. The racks and modems to be included appear in the Selected Filtering box. Click on the Add button to add selected racks and modems from the Available Racks and Modems box to the Selected Filtering box. Click on a rack and modem to select/highlight it. Click on it again to deselect it. You may select as many as you want. Click on the Add All button to add all of the racks and modems from the Available Racks and Modems box to the Selected Filtering box. Click on the Remove All button to remove all of the racks and modems from the Selected Filtering box and have them placed in the Available Racks and Modems box. Click on the Remove button to remove selected racks and modems from the Selected Filtering box and have them placed in the Available Racks and Modems box. Click on a rack and modem to select/highlight it. Click on it again to deselect it. You may select as many as you want. Click on the Done button when you are satisfied with your selections.
