----------------------------------------------------
Flash Updating ISDN BRI Products Using DOS Utilities
----------------------------------------------------
1) Boot into DOS. Do not allow any drivers to load.

2) Change directories to the DOS_UTIL directory containing the MultiTech DOS utilities.
Make sure the .HEX firmware files are copied into the same directory as the Flashpro
executable so that Flashpro can "see" the .HEX files.

3) At the command prompt, type "FLASHPRO -C" (without the quotes) and the Flashpro
   utility will execute.

4) In the Configure menuoption , check to make sure the Active Port is set for "Multi-Tech
ISI608/4608/PCI". Make sure the Device Type is "MODEMFILE". Make sure the base address
and IRQ settings are correct for your card. The ISA cards may need to have their base
address and IRQ settings set manually. The PCI cards will automatically have their
base address and IRQ settings made and should not need to be changed.

5) Also in the Configure menu option, select the ISI port to flash update.
   - If you will be flashing TA firmware (4.vv firmware), then follow these instructions:
     a) 1-BRI port card (ISIHP-1S): Only Port 1 can be flashed with TA firmware (Port 2
        is covered by Port 1).
     b) 2-BRI port cards (ISIHI-2S, ISIHI-2U, ISIHP-2S, ISIHP-2U): Only Port 1 and Port 3
can be flashed with TA firmware (Port 2 is covered by Port 1, Port 4 is covered
        by Port 3).
     c) 4-BRI port cards (ISIHP-4S, ISIHP-4U): Only Port 1, Port 3, Port 5, and Port 7
can be flashed with TA firmware (Port 2 is covered by Port 1, Port 4 is covered
by Port 3, Port 6 is covered by Port 5, and Port 8 is covered by Port 7).

   - If you will be flashing modem firmware (2.vv firmware), then follow these instructions:
     a) 1-BRI port card (ISIHP-1S): Only Port 5 and Port 6 can be flashed with modem
        firmware.
     b) 2-BRI port cards (ISIHI-2S, ISIHI-2U, ISIHP-2S, ISIHP-2U): Only Port 5, Port 6,
Port 7, and Port 8 can be flashed with modem firmware.
     c) 4-BRI port cards (ISIHP-4S, ISIHP-4U): Only Port 9, Port 10, Port 11, Port 12,
Port 13, Port 14, Port 15, and Port 16 can be flashed with modem firmware.

6) In the Select File to Program menu option, select the appropriate TA or modem firmware
.HEX file (depending on the ISI port you selected in step 5).

7) Select the Program Firmware menu option to start the flash update process. Flashpro
will sort the .HEX file, handshake with the TA or modem, and then program the TA or
modem. If sorting fails, then there may be drivers loaded in DOS that need to be
unloaded. If handshaking fails, then restart with step 3 but type "FLASHPRO -C -K"
(without the quotes). If handshaking still fails, then the card may need to be returned
to MultiTech for repairs (contact Technical Support for further help). Otherwise,
you should see programming proceed with a series of hexadecimal numbers and finally end
with a successful message. If the programming phase failed, then try starting with
step 3 again and make sure that TA firmware is programmed into only TA ports and that
modem firmware is programmed only into modem ports (as described in step 5).

8) Exit Flashpro and save the settings when prompted (do not try to flash another port
   without exiting Flashpro first).

9) If there are other ports that need to be flash updated, then repeat steps 3 through 8
   as needed.

--------------------------------------------------------
Flash Updating ISDN BRI Products Using Windows Utilities
--------------------------------------------------------
1) Obtain the latest version of Flash Wizard (if needed). Flash Wizard is available
on our FTP server at ftp.multitech.com/utilities/FlashWizard/FlashWizxxxx.exe
(xxxx=version) or by the World Wide Web at
   ftp://ftp.multitech.com/utilities/FlashWizxxxx.exe (xxxx=version)
Executing the file will walk you through the installation process for Flash Wizard.

2) Copy the .HEX files to the same directory that contains Flash Wizard.exe.
The default directory that Flash Wizard installs to is:

   <drive letter>:\Program Files\MultiTech Systems\Flash Wizard\Flash Wizard.exe
                                        or
   <drive letter>:\Program Files\Multi-Tech Systems\Flash Wizard\Flash Wizard.exe

3) Flash Wizard has a special requirement for .HEX file names according to the model
of the device to be updated. Change to the Flash Wizard directory mentioned in step 2
and do the following if needed.
   - If you will be flashing TA firmware (4.vv firmware), then follow these instructions:
     a) ISA U-interface cards (ISIHI-2U): Rename the first four characters of the TA
.HEX file as ITQX. For example, "rename hpqy425b.hex itqx425b.hex".
     b) ISA S/T-interface cards (ISIHI-2S): Rename the first four characters of the TA
.HEX file as ITQY. For example, "rename hpqy425b.hex itqy425b.hex".
     c) PCI U-interface cards (ISIHP-2U, ISIHP-4U): Rename the first four characters of
the TA .HEX file as HPQX. For example, "rename hpqy425b.hex hpqx425b.hex".
     d) PCI S/T-interface cards (ISIHP-1S, ISIHP-2S, ISIHP-4S): There may be no need
to rename the TA .HEX file if the first four characters are already HPQY. If not,
then rename the first four characters of the TA .HEX file as HPQY. For example,
        "rename itqy425b.hex hpqy425b.hex".

   - If you will be flashing modem firmware (2.vv firmware), then there should be no need
to change the name of the file (can rename named imqy2vvv.hex).

4) Make sure all applications that use the COM ports are stopped or disconnected. Such
applications include HyperTerminal, RAS, RRAS, ProCommPlus, etc.

5) When you execute the Flash Wizard application it should find a list of installed
TAs and modems. If it indicates that there are no .HEX files found, then make sure
you have the .HEX files named appropriately for your card as described in step 3. The
TA ports are called ISIHI-TA for the ISA ISDN BRI cards and ISIHP-TA for the PCI ISDN
BRI cards. The modem ports are called ISI56128_MDM. Select the devices you wish to
flash update and click on the Next> button.

6) A list of the COM ports for the TA and/or modem ports that you can flash update is
given. Highlight the ports to update and select the firmware version and click on the
Next> button. If flashing both TA and modem ports, then another similar screen will
show the COM ports of the other device and its firmware version selections. Select the
ports to update and the firmware to use and click on the Next> button.

7) Flash Wizard will then sort the .HEX file(s), handshake with the devices, and begin
programming the devices. When programming is complete, then click on the Next> button
   to see a status page.

8) If there is a handshake failure or programming fails on some or all ports, then quit
Flash Wizard by clicking on the Finish button and repeat starting at step 4 and try
flashing the ports that failed. If those ports continue to fail, then contact
MultiTech Technical Support for further options.
