INSTALLING REDHAT RPMS. This document covers the RPMS for RedHat 6.2 and 7.0. RPM or RPMS is short for RedHat Package Management System. RPMS offer an easier method of installing and removing the drivers for our ISI cards. NOTE: The RPM's will ONLY work with PCI based cards in RedHat 6.2 or 7.0 at this writing. The CERTIFIED and supported cards for these RPMS' are the ISI5634PCI/4, ISI5634PCI/8, ISIHP-1S, ISIHP-2S, ISIHP-2U, ISIHP-4S and ISIHP-4U. The file isicom-1.1-3.src.rpm or higher is required for proper operation in 6.2. For 7.0 isicom-1.2-3.src.rpm or higher is required. Please note that you will need to start the isicom service before attempting to use the device. After installing this package, running 'rpm -ba /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/isicom-smp.spec' will build the binary RPM in /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/. Please note that you will need to build it on each machine individually. The person installing should be the 'root' user. You will need to have the latest code compiler on your system. The RPMS can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.multitech.com/ISI-Cards/Linux or from http://hardware.redhat.com. Instructions: 1) It is recommended that the current isicom.o be backed up before installing the RPM. The easiest way is to simply rename it or copy it in to another file. An example is "cp (or mv) isicom.o isicom.original". It is usually located in /usr/local/ISICOM. In version 7, you will need to use the '--force' option in the RPM command as in step 2b below. 2a)For Version 6.2: Copy the RPM to a temporary folder. In this example, we'll use /temp. Installation is in three parts, building the 'isicom-smp.spec' file from the source file, then building the actual RPM from that "spec" file, and finally, installing the RPM. Do not type the quotes that around the commands below. Replace the x below with the actual version numbers being used. - Run "rpm -i /temp/isicom-x.x-x.src.rpm". - Run "rpm -ba /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/isicom-smp.spec". - Run "rpm -ihv /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/isicom-x.x-x.i386.rpm". - Reboot the system, either "init 6 " or your favorite method. 2b)For Version 7.0: Copy the RPM to a temporary folder. - Run "rpm -ba /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/isicom-rh7.spec". - Run "rpm -ihv --force /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/isicom-x.x-x.i386.rpm". - Reboot the system, either "init 6 " or your favorite method. 3) To test, you can use the terminal program 'minicom'. use "minicom -s" to setup the tty port you want to communicate with. - select Serial Port setup in configuration window - select A to set the Serial device such as /dev/ttyM1a - select E to set the baudrate - ESC to exit - select Exit to communicate with the port - issue AT commands and make sure it returns OK 4) To remove the RPM, simply type "rpm -e isicom", without the quotes.
