Introduction

The FaxFinder family of V.34 fax server appliances allows you to receive faxes wherever you are as e-mails and send faxes from any application that can print. The FaxFinder family provides distributed faxing capabilities, over a WAN, from a corporate office to small remote offices as well as to field sales people. In addition, they provide secure, convenient faxing for LAN users offering a high degree of privacy for both the sender and recipient. The FaxFinder is available in a 1, 2, 4, and 8-port model for connecting directly to an analog port of a T1/PRI equipped PBX.

The FaxFinder x20 Client Software is for use with the following models of FaxFinder servers; FF100, FF110, FF120, FF200, FF220, FF420 and FF820.

Hardware Description

The FaxFinder system consists of four upgradeable parts; the FaxFinder Client, Multi-Tech Device Manager, FaxFinder Server and Modem firmware internal to the FaxFinder Server.

  1. The FaxFinder Client software runs on a user’s Windows 8 / Windows 7 / Vista / XP  workstations. We have a 32 bit (x86)  version and a 64 bit (x64) version of the FaxFinder x20 Client.
  2. The FaxFinder Terminal Services Client software runs on a user’s Windows 2003 or 2008 server running Terminal Services.  We have a 32 bit (x86) version and a 64 bit (x64) version of the FaxFinder x20 Client.
  3. The Multi-Tech Device Manager software runs on all versions of Windows (from XP/2000 and newer).  For 64 bit versions, this application installs in the "Programs Files (x86)" folder.
  4. The FaxFinder Server firmware that implements the fax server functionality of the Fax Finder.
  5. The modem firmware internal to the FaxFinder Server. The model of FaxFinder Server dictates how many modems are in the server.

Update

To upgrade the Multi-Tech Device Manager 

  1. Exit the Multi-Tech Device Manager
  2. Run the mt-device-manager_x_xx.exe (where x_xx is the latest version) by double clicking on it.
  3. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the update.

To update the modem firmware, use the Update mechanism within the Multi-Tech Device Manager software:

  1. Open the Multi-Tech Device Manager Software. 
  2. Select the Device Status tab. 
  3. Right click on the FaxFinder listed whose modem’s you want to update and select the “update” menu item. 
  4. The Update window will appear. Select the modem you wish to update. 
  5. Enter the name of the firmware file you wish to use to update the modem (or browse to it). DID modem firmware is of the form: ECccnnnn.hex. The modem module firmware is of the form: DWccnnnn.hex. The cc is for the country code, and nnnn is for the version number. 
  6. After the filename is entered, click the “Start Update” button. 
  7. The update will take about two-three minutes. The status box will display informational messages and the progress bar will show the progress of the flash update procedure. 
  8. When it is done, click the close box.

To update the FaxFinder Server firmware: 

  1. Save the Server Configuration File as detailed below.
  2. Open the Multi-Tech Device Manager Software. 
  3. Select the Device Status tab.
  4. Right click on the FaxFinder you want to update and select the “update” menu item. 
  5. The Update window will appear. Select FaxFinder firmware.
  6. Enter the name of the firmware file you wish to use to update the FaxFinder (or browse to it). It will be of the form XXXX_n_nn.bin where XXXX is the model (FF100, FF200, etc.) the firmware is for.  n_nn is the version of the firmware.
  7. Click the “Start Update” button. 
  8. The update will take about a minute. The status box will display informational messages that show the progress of the procedure. 
  9. When it is done, click the close box.

To update the FaxFinder Client software:

  1. Quit the FaxFinder client software.
  2. It is best to uninstall the previous version via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
  3. Run the ffclient-x_x_x.msi (where x-xx is the latest version) by double clicking on it.
    1. ffclient_x_xx.exe (versions before 1.9.0)
  4. Or Run ffclientts-x_x_x.exe for the Terminal Services Version of the FaxFinder Client. 
    1. ffclientts_x_xx_xx.exe for versions before 1.9.0
  5. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the update. 

To save the Server Configuration File:

  1. Open the Multi-Tech Device Manager Software.
  2. Select the Device Status tab.
  3. Right click on the FaxFinder you want to update and select the “save configuration” menu item. 
  4. The Save Configuration window will appear.   It will point you to a directory to save the Server Configuration file.
